1.1Fact or Opinion.
Sometimes it is hard to tell the differnce between sentences that are fiction.
•A FACT can be proven to be true.
•An OPINION is what someone believes -it cannot be proven true or false.
Deciding if a sentence is a Fact.
•If you can find proof, or evidence for a sentence, then it is FACT
1.Look at these sentences.
•1.Rabbits are mammals.
•2.George Washington was the first president of the United States.
•3.The earth orbits the sun.
•4.There are books in the library.
Does the Author want you to believe that these sentences are facts?
Yes or No
The correct answer is YES.
Rabbits ARE mammals.
•You could look in a dictionary op encyclopedia, and find PROOF that the sentence states a fact.
2.You decide -Fact or Opinion
•Elephants have four legs.
Fact or Opinion
The correct answer is Fact.
You decide -Fact or Opinion
•Black is the best color for a dog.
Fact or Opinion
The correct answer is Opinion.
Remember : A FACT can be proven to be true.
An Opinion is what someone believes -it cannot be proven true or false.
